So apparently there are 72 recognised genders now. I tried to find a source or some kind of body that decides, recognises or validates genders, but my search came up empty. Some people claimed the number 72 was derived from Facebook opening up gender options – sounds plausible – in any case, we have a very long list that includes genders such as Healgender: A gender identity that gives the person peace, calm, and positivity, Genderblank: It is closely related to a blank space, Egogender: It is a personal type of gender identified by the individual alone. It is based on the person’s experience within the self, and Cloudgender: The person’s gender cannot be comprehended or understood due to depersonalisation and derealisation disorder. Each gender either does or does not come with their own pronouns. I believe you have the right to your own pronouns, but you don’t have the right to demand that I give a shit.
Because here is the thing. I really don’t care what gender or pronoun you identify with. As hard as this may be to accept, your gender or pronoun has little to no effect on my life. Call yourself whatever you like, I will even support you in that as best I can, but I really, don’t, care. Cultural appropriation, contaminating safe spaces, trigger warnings, political correctness – what started out as a positive movement with the best intentions, has become a way to silence free speech, free thought, and to cancel and boycott anyone who’s personal views don’t align. When did we all become so easily offended?
The self obsession with personal crisis and victimhood has infected the younger generation like a virus. We have inadvertently created a generation of people who thinks the world cares about their personal crisis. That how they ‘feel’ trumps facts. A generation who are struggling in the workplace because they feel ‘oppressed’ and ‘personally attacked’ when asked to do a job they don’t feel like doing. You might have all received a ribbon in the hurdle race so nobody felt left out, but the real world doesn’t work that way. In the real world there isn’t going to be someone holding your hand telling you that ‘everything is going to be ok’ when you do a crappy job.
Let me make this clear. I am not anti-anyone or anything, you have a right to identify as you wish. Live and let live I say. I just don’t believe we all need to pander to it. I don’t agree that we all need to live in your gender identity bubble, and that if we don’t, we are raging homo-gendo-trans-demi-omni-phobes. You will get no special treatment from me.
Or simplified.
You can call yourself whatever you wish but I'm not pandering to delusion no matter how much you demand I do.
When addressing you, I use your name. I do not refer to you by a pronoun, as that is rude.
I am under no obligation to see you as you see yourself. Your gender identity is of very little interest to me.
